Updates |
We have two pieces of sad news since the last update.
Firstly, the sad passing of Brejiero. He died peacefully at home at the age of 24. He was Nan Thurman's first Lusitano Stallion bought from Portugal. A real character, star of many displays, a true schoolmaster - and 'King of the Spanish Walk'. He had a great life and has left us with many happy memories.
Then, tragically, we lost our Champion Lusitano x Connemara, Lucca on 6th June. He was struck down with colic, which vets discovered was caused by internal melanomas.
A sad loss of a wonderful horse at only 14yrs old.
Lucca was Diabo's eldest homebred son and competed in British Dressage winning at every level competing up to Grand Prix.
He was the Champion of Champions at the Lusitano Breed Show, four times winner of the Dressage to music.
Lucca won twice at Royal Windsor and was unbeaten in Working Equitation classes in Great Britain. In 2001, he competed in Golega, Portugal winning the Piaffe and Passage class beating all the Portuguese! In 2002, he was part of the British Team for Working Equitation competing in Beja, Portugal.
He then started to Showjump, which he loved, and had many wins being incredibly agile against the clock.
He was always prominent in Displays, and was used to teach riders the finer arts in Classical Riding.
The most gentle of horses, he is very sadly missed.
On a cheerier note, we have additions to the yard. These include the beautiful Lusitano stallion, Oasis, who is being used for classical lessons and displays and the impressive black Freisian x Andalusian, Palio.
We continue being busy schooling horses, not just Iberians, but all makes, shapes and sizes. Plus, we are holding regular clinics taken by Diane.
