Training and Lessons |
The dedicated team are trained to produce the best from the horses using Portuguese Classical methods. The emphasis being on the soft and gentle approach with much of the work being done from the ground, which supples the horse and allows him to learn movements without the weight of the rider. The results of these methods speak for themselves with homebred and home-produced horses winning many prestigious awards, not just for Classical classes but also in affiliated competitions.
Horses are taken in short or long term for schooling for either competition or for high school movements. They are taken through the stages of lateral movements including shoulder-in and half-pass, onto more advanced work such as Piaffe, Passage, Spanish walk, and the spectacular Spanish Trot. Iberians are the speciality but all horses can benefit from this type of training. Lessons can then be given to the owner/rider to teach the horse much of the in-hand work so it can be continued at home.
Lessons are also given on the lunge to help the rider establish a Classical seat, with flat work tuition to define the aids and to get the feel of the movements performed correctly.
The sport of Working Equitation is also being taken on board at Turville. This discipline is relatively new to this country, yet enjoys high profile media coverage in Europe where it is regarded as a supreme equestrian sport.
It comprises of a dressage test and working agility. In the agility section the horse and rider have to tackle various obstacles at speed but with very correct riding! Some of the obstacles include slalom poles, jumps, going through water, bridges and lots more. In the national competitions there is also herding cattle! Great fun for both horse and rider.
Diane, who is on the British team, is giving tuition in Working Equitation to both horse and rider. This need not be confined to Iberian horses, anyone can have a go as long as their horse is quick and fairly obedient.
